Pipe Bursting

Trenchless method for replacing a host pipe by fragmenting the existing pipe and installing a completely new pipe of equal or lesser diameter.

ADVANTAGES

  • Minimal surface disturbance
  • Replaces existing with completely new pipe
  • Can increase the diameter of the pipe
  • Uses existing easements and alignments

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Will match any existing bellies or high spots
  • Risk of disturbance to adjacent utilities
  • Potential surface heave
  • Possible damage to new pipe from sharp fragments of¬†existing pipe
  • Narrow trench widths, hard soils, large upsize, long runs, encasements
  • Certain pipe types (CMP, AC) cannot be burst
